Q: How can I check the status of my application? Who can I contact if I have questions about my application?

 

Q: I have submitted my application for ERAP before March 10, but I have not heard back from the program. What is the status of the applications submitted?

  • You will hear from the program once your application is under review. 
  • If you are seeking first month’s rent and/or security deposit, or you have a writ of judgement, please email us at [email protected] and we will do our best to expedite your application’s review.

 

Q: If I submitted an application for ERAP before March 10, but have not heard back yet, will there be resources to assist me?

  • Your application would be reviewed in the order it is received and we will reach out to you when your application is under review. 
  • If you are experiencing homelessness, please see FAQ 4.
  • If you are looking for additional resources, please see FAQ 7.

 

Q: I was not able to apply for ERAP by March 10 and I am at risk of experiencing homelessness. What can I do?

  • Families experiencing housing instability or homelessness can visit Virginia Williams Family Resource Center (VWFRC) located at 920 Rhode Island Avenue NE or call (202) 526-0017. 
  • Eligibility workers at VWFRC will assess the family’s need and connect families to different District resources including the Homeless Prevention Program (HPP).

 

Q: What services are offered at The Homeless Prevention Program (HPP)?

  • The Homeless Prevention Program (HPP) aims to support families with minor children to resolve housing crises whenever possible and facilitate connections to appropriate services. I HPP provides the following services to families experiencing housing instability: 
    1. Case management
    2. Mediation and diversion
    3. Rental assistance
    4. Housing search assistance

 

Q: What services are available for individuals with no minor children in their care?

  • Project Reconnect is a shelter diversion and rapid-exit program for unaccompanied adults experiencing homelessness who are 18 years of age or older. In general, Project Reconnect provides the following services to unaccompanied adults experiencing housing instability:  
    1. Case management
    2. Mediation and diversion
    3. Rental assistance
    4. Housing search assistance

Q: What other community services are available for residents?

    Residents can access legal services through the following:

  • Landlord Tenant Legal Assistance Network (LTLAN)
  • In partnership with: Bread for the City, DC Bar Pro Bono Center, Legal Aid Society, Legal Counseling for Elderly, Neighborhood Legal Services Program, and Rising Justice

    The Landlord Tenant Legal Assistance Network provides free, over-the-phone legal information to both unrepresented tenants and unrepresented small landlords who have residential housing disputes in the District of Columbia.

Q: When will the Emergency Rental Assistance Program (ERAP) start accepting applications again?

The program is scheduled to start accepting applications in the October 2023 when funds from the new fiscal year will be made available. Any changes to this timeline will be communicated to stakeholders and on our website and social media platforms.
